Our second annual fundraising event took place on Monday September 30 at the Dave Thomas Conference Center. The night began with a mingling session with animals from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and Brutus Buckeye and an opportunity to bid on silent auction items. Our program began at 6pm and included a coursed dinner for guests to enjoy. Speakers during the presentation included: Brittany Fischer, Program Coordinator of CHAIRE, Dr. Kelly George and Dr. Tony Parker, Co-Directors of CHAIRE, Dr.

CHAIRE Graduate Students Brittany Fischer, Madeline Winans, and Zach England attended the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) and the International Marine Animal Trainers' Association (IMATA) Annual Conference in New Orleans last week, which took place from September 7-11. Dr. Kelly George who is their advisor and the co-director of CHAIRE accompanied students. Over 3,000 members where in attendance and the conference included over 200 education program sessions, poster presentations, and round-table topic discussions.

Twenty students visited the Wilds this past weekend for the second annual Pseudo In-situ Conservation Short Course. Students spent two days listening to guest lectures and participating in hands-on activities including sleeping outside near rhino for a "bush camp" experience.

Graduate students Jade Werner, Yolonda Bradshaw, and Nicole Lorig recently attended the International Society for Anthrozoology (ISAZ) Animals in the Public Eye: Interactions and Perceptions of Animals Conference. The conference took place in Orlando, Florida from July 1-4. Students were accompanied by CHAIRE member, Dr. Kim Cole, and CHAIRE co-director Dr. Kelly George.

CHAIRE Graduate Students Madeline Winans, Yolonda Bradshaw, Jade Werner, Nicole Lorig, and Zach England recently attended the Center for Animal Welfare Science Conference hosted by Purdue University which took place on May 15-16.
Featured speakers included: David Fraser, PhD, University of British Columbia; Anna Johnson, PhD, Iowa State University; Janice Swanson, PhD, Michigan State University; Nicole Widmar, PhD, Purdue University; and Jan Shearer, DVM, Iowa State University.

Every summer two groups of students participate in the Exotic Animal Behavior & Welfare Study Abroad Program which spans 2.5 weeks in South Africa. Resident Directors are CHAIRE members Dr. Kelly George and Dr. Steve Moeller who each take a group of nine students. The first group, led by Dr. Moeller, has just arrived safely in South Africa while the second group, which is led by Dr. George, leaves the U.S. on May 25th.

We are pleased to announce that we have opened the window for request for proposals for future graduate research assistants. In order to be eligible for submission all proposals must include one CHAIRE member as the principal investigator or co-PI. Proposals must fall into at least one of our focus areas which are Welfare & Behavior, Conservation, Companionship, and Zooeyia.
The deadline for submission is March 31, 2019 at 11:59pm. All submissions are to be sent to chaire@osu.edu.
