Madeline Winans will begin her career as a CHAIRE graduate student this summer working with Dr. Kelly George as her advisor.
Below Madeline shares her experiences as an undergraduate majoring in Zoology and her graduate research with the California sea lions that will be arriving at the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium in 2020!

Below are all of our 2018 most memorable human-animal interaction photo contest winners!
We ran a two week long contest asking for photo submissions with a brief description included for a chance to win prizes.
All submissions were submitted to chaire@osu.edu and hand picked by CHAIRE members.
Thank you to all who entered, it is amazing to think about all the human-animal interactions we have on a daily basis and how animals contanstanly impact our lives.

Wouter Stellaard, Animal Programs Training Director at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, is giving a guest presentation at The Ohio State University on Thursday January 24th, 2019 from 5:30pm-6:30pm.
The presentation is located in Animal Science Arena (111N) in the Animal Science Building on campus.
Hosted by the undergraduate student arm of CHAIRE, the Human-Animal Interactions Club, the presentation is titled "Zoo Animal Behavior and Training."

Below, alumni Lauren Sommers
shares her experiences since recently graduating from The Ohio State University last spring. During her time as an undergraduate student, Lauren was active in the Human-Animal Interactions Club and took part in undergraduate research with Dr. Kelly George as her research advisor. CHAIRE graduate students Jade Werner and Brittany Fischer were recently invited to observe Dr. Chris Tonra in his Lab of Avian Ecology. Dr. Tonra is an Assistant Professor in Avian Wildlife Ecology in the School of Environmental and Natural Resources.
He is a conservation biologist who integrates the fields of behavior, physiology, and ecology. His primary research interests lie in examining the underlying mechanisms for how individuals interact with their environments, with a particular focus on avian systems.

Students are preparing to travel to Ireland over winter break as part of the annual Human & Animal Interactions Study Abroad Program. The program spans for ten days with 45 students attending this year along with Dr. Kelly George and Dr. Steve Moeller. This specific program mimics the pre-requisite course, ANIMSCI 2400.05, designed to expand their understanding of the role that animals play in shaping society, culture, and economics within the United States and for those who travel, abroad.

CHAIRE's first four graduate students began their program in fall of 2018.
Yolonda Bradshaw plans to focus her research on how behavior and welfare of shelter dogs affect their adoptability. Brittany Fischer's project focuses on welfare of the cheetahs at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and the zoo staff-animal bond. Jade Werner is studying the use of hair sampling as an effective tool to measure cortisol levels and chronic stress in equine. Nicole Lorig is developing an equine quality assurance program for 4-H youth.

The Human-Animal Interactions Club, the student organization of CHAIRE, is hosting sloth yoga on Thursday October 25th from 6:30pm-7:30pm. The event will take place at the Agricultural Administration Building Auditorium. Cost is to be paid at the door and is $10 for students and $20 for faculty and staff. This event is only open to those affiliated with The Ohio State University. All proceeds from the event will go directly towards sloth conservation.
